# Edit and version a workflow

> Review a saved workflow in the visual builder, fix compiler errors, and manage versions.

export const DocMeta = ({type, applies, owner}) => {
  const LABELS = {
    tutorial: "Tutorial",
    "how-to": "How-to guide",
    explanation: "Explanation",
    reference: "Reference"
  };
  return <div className="e6-meta">
      <span className={type === "how-to" || type === "tutorial" ? "e6-eyebrow" : "e6-eyebrow e6-eyebrow--quiet"}>{LABELS[type] || type}</span>
      {applies ? <span>Applies to: {applies}</span> : null}
      {owner ? <span>Owner: {owner}</span> : null}
    </div>;
};

<DocMeta type="how-to" applies="All deployments" />

## Edit a workflow

1. Open **Workflows** and select the saved workflow.
2. Review its inputs, graph, steps, branches, tools, skills, model pins, assertions, outputs and artifacts.
3. Select a step and edit its configuration.
4. Use the live graph and compiler feedback to resolve every error.
5. Save the appropriate version.

## Versions and authorship

Each workflow version records its author, and authorship is enforced:

* You can edit a version you authored, in place.
* To change another author's version, clone it and edit the copy.
* You can create a new version from an existing one, duplicate the whole workflow, or promote a version as current.

Workflow specs carry a compiler version and must pass the same compilation path that's used at run time. Legacy fields such as `gate_check`, `verify`, `condition` and `if_false_goto` are rejected on save.
