# Triggers

> Cron and webhook trigger options, limits and run behavior.

A trigger is a persistent, project-scoped record that starts one or more workflows. A manual click or a run from chat is a run mode, not a stored trigger.

## Trigger types

| Type | Starts workflows when |
| - | - |
| `cron` | A standard five-field UTC schedule fires |
| `webhook` | An external system POSTs a JSON payload |

## Options

| Option | Applies to | Details |
| - | - | - |
| Workflows | Both | One to ten workflows, started in parallel |
| Input mappings | Both | Shared and per-workflow Jinja mappings; webhooks map payload fields into inputs |
| Retries and backoff | Both | Retry count and backoff |
| Enabled state | Both | Turn the trigger on or off |
| Version history | Both | Each change is versioned |
| Minimum interval | `cron` | Five minutes by default; operators can change it |
| Debounce | `webhook` | Ignore identical payloads |

## Run behavior on Kubernetes

Each enabled cron trigger is reconciled to its own Kubernetes `CronJob`. Overlapping runs are forbidden, and the missed-start deadline is 300 seconds. The durable trigger record is the source of truth. The local Compose profile doesn't run cron automation.

See [Schedule a workflow](/agentflow/automate/schedule) and [Start workflows from webhooks](/agentflow/automate/webhooks).
