# DbVisualizer

> Connect the DbVisualizer SQL client to an e6data cluster using the e6data JDBC driver.

[DbVisualizer](https://www.dbvis.com/) is a universal database tool and SQL editor installed as a local application. Connect it to an e6data cluster with the [e6data JDBC driver](/query/connect/jdbc).

## Requirements

* DbVisualizer 23.2.4 or newer.
* The latest [e6data JDBC driver](/query/connect/jdbc).
* The connection details from the cluster's **Connection Information** tab - the JDBC URL, your username, and your password (a [personal access token](/platform/tokens/pat-and-service-account-keys)).

The JDBC URL for a **Direct** endpoint:

```
jdbc:e6data://<host>:<port>/database=<database_name>&catalog=<catalog_name>
```

For a **TLS** endpoint:

```
jdbc:e6data://<host>:<port>/database=<database_name>&catalog=<catalog_name>&secure=true&cluster-uuid=<cluster_uuid>
```

## Connect

1. Click **Create Database** to start a new connection.
2. Search for and select **Custom** from the connection list.
3. Give the driver an appropriate name.
4. In the settings format, select **Database URL** and enter the JDBC connection string.
5. Click **Connect** to add the JDBC JAR through the Driver Manager.
6. Open the Driver Manager, provide the name and JDBC connection string, and add the driver.
7. Return to the database connection, enter the Database URL, user ID, and password, and click **Connect**.

## TLS/HTTPS

e6data uses globally trusted certificates, so the host and port from the connection dialog are sufficient. Any cluster requiring authentication also requires TLS/HTTPS - use the cluster's HTTPS URL in the connection string. (Required only for the TLS connectivity endpoint type.)
