# Tableau

> Connect Tableau Desktop and Tableau Cloud to an e6data cluster over JDBC.

Connect Tableau to an e6data cluster to build interactive dashboards and visualizations. Tableau Desktop connects over the e6data JDBC driver; Tableau Cloud connects through a Gateway endpoint.

## Tableau Desktop

### Requirements

* Establish a Direct connection on your cluster.
* Tableau Desktop 2023.3.0 or later.
* The connection details from the cluster's **Connection Information** tab in the Compute Plane.
* The e6data JDBC driver - see [JDBC](/query/connect/jdbc). Contact the e6data team at `help@e6data.com` if you need the driver.

### Connect

1. Gather the connection details for your cluster - the JDBC URL, your username, and your password (a [personal access token](/platform/tokens/pat-and-service-account-keys)). The JDBC URL format is:

   ```
   jdbc:e6data://<HOSTNAME>:<PORT>/database=<DATABASE>&catalog=<CATALOG_NAME>
   ```
2. Install the JDBC driver into Tableau's drivers folder:
   * Windows: `C:\Program Files\Tableau\Drivers`
   * macOS: `~/Library/Tableau/Drivers`
   * Linux: `/opt/tableau/tableau_driver/jdbc`
3. In Tableau, under **To a server**, select **Other Databases (JDBC)**.
4. Enter the e6data JDBC URL, select **MySQL** as the dialect, click **Connect**, then **Sign In**.

## Tableau Cloud

### Requirements

* Establish a Gateway connection on your cluster.
* Tableau Cloud 2023.3.0.
* The connection details from the cluster's **Connection Information** tab.

### Connect

1. Log in to Tableau Cloud and select **Workbook** from the new tab.
2. In the connector list, select **Starburst Enterprise**.
3. Enter the connection details:
   * Server = your cluster host
   * Port = `443`
   * Username = your user email
   * Password = a [personal access token](/platform/tokens/pat-and-service-account-keys)
4. Tick the box to require SSL and set SSL verification to **FULL**.
5. Click **Connect**.

## TLS/HTTPS

e6data uses globally trusted certificates, so the host and port from the connection dialog are sufficient. Any cluster requiring authentication also requires TLS/HTTPS - use the cluster's HTTPS URL in the connection string.
