Each produced row receives a non-NULL identifier; this function accepts no arguments.

## Syntax

```sql theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
uuid()
```

## Arguments

Takes no arguments.

## Returns

* Type: STRING
* Possible values: A lowercased hyphenated 36-character UUID v4 string.

## Properties

| Property | Value |
| - | - |
| Deterministic | No |
| Supports window usage | No |

* A fresh random identifier is generated per output row. Randomness does not provide a contractual guarantee against every possible collision.
* Deterministic: Repeated calls can return different random values.

## Examples

### Display depends on the SQL dialect

```sql theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
SELECT uuid() AS "value";
```

Variable result: A 36-character lowercased hyphenated UUID v4; the identifier changes between evaluations.

## Limitations

* No seed argument or deterministic mode is declared.
