# Mode and network

> network

ReferenceApplies to: Unified engine deployments

`[network]`

## Internal endpoints

Each internal endpoint has `listen` and `advertise`. Listen is the address bound by the controller. Advertise is the URL supplied to workers.

| Endpoint | Purpose | Default listen | Default advertise |
| - | - | - | - |
| `services` | Catalog, credential, configuration, and provider requests | `127.0.0.1:50060` | `http://127.0.0.1:50060` |
| `workers` | Worker registration, assignments, and events | `127.0.0.1:50061` | `http://127.0.0.1:50061` |
| `telemetry` | Worker logs, metrics, and traces | `127.0.0.1:50063` | `http://127.0.0.1:50063` |

> **Example**
>
> Listen on `0.0.0.0:50061` inside a Pod and advertise `http://laminar-controller:50061` through its Kubernetes Service. The Service must expose that port.

## Client listeners

`http.listen` defaults to `127.0.0.1:15003`. `spark_connect.listen` defaults to `127.0.0.1:15002`. Both have an `enabled` field. The current controller requires Spark Connect and the HTTP host for its document services.

## Request limits

`rpc_timeout` defaults to `{ secs = 30, nanos = 0 }`. It limits one controller service request. `rpc_max_in_flight` defaults to `64`.

## Previous configuration files

Combined controller and allocated-worker files can be read in the previous format. Saving through Settings writes the new format. Independent scheduler, committer, driver, or other service deployments are rejected. Controller services now run together.
